“Jesus never claimed to be God,” said a liberal seminary divinity professor. This professor has committed the fallacy of the negative inference; just because Jesus did not assert His divinity does not mean that He did not possess it.
In Matthew 2:5, Jesus forgave the sins of the paralytic man and His enemies correctly reasoned, “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Jesus cited His
ability both to provide a sign wonder healing as well as forgive sins, and rebuked the Scribes, boldly proclaiming, “But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” (Matthew 2:10).
